Project situation: Occupied by GPs
Project brief: Ashley House were instructed by the Practice in April 2000. Having looked at alternative sites, an approach was made to the Council to build on the open space adjoining the existing surgery in which a Day Nursery operator had showed interest.
Project solution: Agreements were reached and the Clements Practice, whilst merging with another in Haverhill, moved to temporary accommodation allowing the day nursery to move on site.
Points of interest: The unconventional design (once described as a railway carriage by the Mayor) was the result of a specific brief from the Doctors who wished to boost the spirit of this highly deprived community by making a positive statement. They invested considerable time and money in interior enhancements, including a 3-colour lighting system, a blue glass block reception desk and a hand-crafted stained glass mobile which now hangs in the waiting room, weighing in at
100kg!
