Project situation: Combining a 6 GP practice and Clinic Premises to provide modern healthcare facilities following retirement of a senior partner.
Project brief: The lead partner of an existing 6 GP practice requested new , larger accommodation for themselves and another Garstang surgery. The local PCT bought the practice premises from the retiring doctor. Ruth Roberts, Director of Clinical Services at Wyre Primary Care Trust, said “Locating clinical services in one place will improve communication between clinicians, enhancing the patient’s journey through the NHS.”
Project solution: A Health Complex with on-site parking, physiotherapy, podiatry, phlebotomy, school nursing and much more…
Points of interest: Several sites were found, including a farmers field, which we took to the planners to gain some feedback. The farmers field, which had previously been a subject of a joint initiative on which a large housing developer wished to take an option along with two other pieces of adjoining land, was our preferred site because it was affordable, and well located, this was given the 'green light' by the planner.
Testimonial: Doug Soper, Chief Executive of Wyre Primary Care Trust, said “It was a great opportunity to create modern purpose built accommodation from which we can provide high quality clinical services. ”He continued “Projects such as this will help the Primary Care Trust to implement the 10-year plan to reform the NHS, by improving service quality and access, and enhancing the working lives of staff.”
