The new health centre is part of the City of Hackney Primary Care Trust (CHPCT) Strategic Services Development plan and is delivered by the East London LIFTCo. The existing surgery was in very poor condition and from the new building the GPs will be able to provide a wider range of services and cater for an expanding patient list. The new purpose-built Nightingale Practice will give Clapton patients access to improved clinical and community facilities.
Building work started this month, following extensive patient and public involvement in the new designs. The practice building is owned by NHS City and Hackney, with redevelopment part of its Strategic Services Development Plan to improve clinical facilities for Hackney patients.
The new surgery will provide just under 1,000 sq metres of purpose-built clinical facilities at an approximate cost of £2.3 million. It is being built and maintained by East London LIFTCo who worked closely with Ashley House plc to bring the project to fruition. Completion is due September 2011.
Steve Gilvin, NHS City and Hackney Director of Primary Care Commissioning, said: "This has been a truly collaborative project, with the local community actively involved shaping this building to meet their needs. The new facilities will allow Nightingale Practice to continue to deliver high quality care in improved clinical facilities."
The building was commissioned once it became apparent that existing facilities were inadequate for the growing and changing needs of patients and the local community. Public and patients were consulted on the redesign in early 2009.
Jill White, Practice Manager, Nightingale Practice said: "The practice has and always will be committed to caring for the physical, psychological and social aspects of our patients' health, incorporating prevention and treatment of disease and the promotion of good health. The new building will enable us to provide a wider range of service to help us achieve this."
Roger Lye, Chief Executive, East London LIFTCo, said: "This redevelopment will transform health care services for this local community providing a new modern centre where local residents can access a wider range of services."
