Project situation: Two Practices totalling ten GPs requiring relocation from sub standard premises
Project brief: To create new enlarged primary care facilities that would embrace the concept of bringing secondary care services closer to the homes of patients from cutting edge medical premises. Project solution: The new Syston Health Centre is a purpose built 3-storey building offering high quality and accessible primary care services to patients in the area. The wide range of professional healthcare facilities and services provided from the centre include;
· 31 fully equipped consulting rooms
· 7 Operating Theatres
· 3 Patient recovery rooms
· Mobile MRI scanning
· Echocardiography
· Ultrasound scanning
· Physiotherapy
· On site Pharmacy
· PCT run community services
· Hand clinic
Points of interest: Syston Health Centre was built in the 1970’s and housed two practices: Dr Hurwood & Partners and Dr Roper & Partners. With the premises in a poor state of repair and the local population expanding to 22,000, extensive new housing developments were required and therefore extra primary care services to support this escalating population. The GP’s at Syston had been campaigning for more than 18 years for a new building until 10 GPs formed a consortium to enable them to borrow £5.4 million to build the new surgery on a car park behind the old Health Centre, which would be demolished once completed.
