Energy Efficient Medical Premises meets Carbon Footprint targets
An example of close working relationships with the PCT, Council and Local Community. Very importantly it also shows Ashley House’s commitment to developing green and sustainable buildings to meet Local and Government Policies and Targets.
Project brief: At the outset, Ashley House plc were appointed to facilitate the relocation of the practice out of Carden Avenue and Warmdene Road, two local Surgeries, into one building while maintaining their own identity as separate Practices. To provide additional space for the provision of extended PCT services, e.g. Podiatry and Health Education and a Community Pharmacy.
Project solution: After an extensive site search, working with the local School, Community, GP Practices and the PCT enabled an innovative design to be developed on unused land within the grounds of Carden Primary School. This resulted in a modern facility, built-in a residential area that will serve the community for many years to come. It is built to allow changes in configuration, as service solutions to patient needs change.
Points of interest: The purchase and use of the Council land required a General Consent Disposal Order under Section 77 from the DfES, this was applied for and achieved by the local Education Department. The building, due to the topography of the site, comprises of upper ground and lower ground floors thus allowing level access to both floors. Energy efficient design, e.g. passive ventilation and light tubes, and renewable energy sources, e.g. solar panels, have all helped this building to meet new targets for carbon footprints of new buildings.
