Relocation of 4GP town centre practice

Description: 4GP Practice including space for PCT Clinical Services

Project brief: The Practice occupied space in a PCT building which was shared by another Practice and the PCT Clinical Services team. They had outgrown the space allocated to them and were operating in very cramped circumstances. In 2002 Ashley House was appointed to locate a site in the immediate vicinity on which to relocate the practice into new purpose built premises and to include space to provide GP training and to significantly extend the number of healthcare services they could offer to their patients.

Project solution: Two storey, modern, DDA compliant premises offering flexible accommodation, and ample parking all within 300 metres from their previous premises.

Points of interest: Having managed to identify the potential to provide new Surgery premises on the only site available, situated very close to the existing premises, the project was considerably delayed while the Portsmouth City Council considered if the Council owned site could be sold and developed outside of their strategy for the regeneration of the Somers Town area. Permission was eventually granted by the Council that the site could be purchased. This was ultimately as a result of help from a local Councillor who was a supporter of the Surgery moving, who, having discovered that a planning application had been submitted for a convenience store on the site, had it overturned in favour of the development of a Surgery.
