Local Farmer provides land for new barn style community surgery
Project situation: Premises occupied by 2 GP’s in Brill who form part of a large rural Practice based in Thame, with a third Surgery in Long Crendon
Project brief: To find a suitable site on which to provide new purpose built premises in the village of Brill for 2 GP’s who were practicing in a tiny converted ancient cottage which was not easily accessible to disabled patients.
Project solution: Land on the edge of the village was purchased to provide the site for modern, DDA compliant, purpose built premises, with a dispensary. As well as the delivery of general medical services, the GP’s provide a dispensary service to a large proportion of its rural based patients.
Points of interest: A local farmer, who is a patient of the Practice, offered the opportunity to purchase some farm land on the edge of the village for the new Surgery. The planning process was very protracted as the Senior Planner was not supportive of the scheme; however, the local Councillor supported the application as he could see the benefit to the local community. We were required to provide a barn style building to fit in with the local farming surroundings.
