Plans for high quality Extra Care accommodation for older people are to be unveiled at a Public Consultation Event on Thursday 1st March, 4.00-7.00 pm at York Medical Group, 199 Acomb Road, York YO2 4HD.

There is a clear requirement to address the housing needs of elderly people in York. The City of York Council is taking positive action by making available sites it owns as potential development sites for new extra care housing.

In March 2017 following a competitive tender process by City of York Council, Ashley House were appointed to design, build, deliver and operate an Extra Care development on the site of the Oakhaven Older Persons Home on Acomb Road. Extra Care housing supports elderly people to live independently & safely with easy access to social activities in the knowledge that care is at hand when they need it.

The objective is to provide new modern accommodation and, through redevelopment of the site, more housing on the site for elderly people. The state of the art development is being designed by award-winning architects MELT and will provide 56 apartments for older people, and will include a lounge and dining room serving hot meals.

Proposals for the development will be shared with members of the local community who are invited to ‘pop-in’ during the above times, to meet with the team to see the proposals, discuss them and give feedback prior to submitting the formal planning application.

The proposals can be viewed and comments made on-line at www.york.gov.uk/consultations or via email at OakhavenDevelopment@york.gov.uk
Alternatively visit the Acomb Explore Library on Front Street from 1st to 8th March where the plans will be on display.
