Planning approval granted for Burnholme Care Home
23rd October 2017
Ashley House plc is delighted to announce that plans for high quality accommodation for older people at a former school site in Burnholme, York have taken a step forward after planners approved proposals to build an 80 bed care home.
Burnholme Care Home – Planning Approval
The news comes after the Council appointed Ashley House earlier this year as the developer, working with HC-One as the care home provider for the site. As part of the agreement the Council is to block-purchase 25 beds in line with its ‘Actual Cost of Care’ rates.
The Council’s demolition work at the former Burnholme School site started early in February, clearing the way for the development of a Health and Wellbeing Campus which will benefit residents of all ages.
The Burnholme project is part of the older persons’ accommodation programme. The programme seeks to address the needs of York’s ageing population, making the best use of York’s existing extra care housing by making it more accessible for people with higher care needs, and replacing the Council’s outdated older people’s homes with a wide range of more modern accommodation which meets modern care standards.
Councillor Carol Runciman, executive member for health and adult social care said: “This is a huge step forward in our programme to redevelop the former Burnholme School site. This is the latest step in our programme to modernise older persons’ accommodation which will deliver over 900 new units of accommodation with care for older people across York. We remain committed to this programme which will ensure current and future generations of older people will have access to high quality accommodation for older people.”
Ashley House’s Commercial Director, Jonathan Holmes said: “We are delighted to have achieved planning approval so quickly after our appointment. This is testament to close working relationships between ourselves and our partners at the City of York and HC-One. We look forward to starting to build this exciting new care home shortly.”
