Diagnostics and Treatment Centre, Durham

Project: Diagnostics and Treatment Centre | Start Date: Mar 2017 | Completion Date: May 2018

A purpose built centre providing day surgery, community renal dialysis, outpatients and other out of hospital services.
Delivered in partnership with City Hospitals Sunderland.

The new facility is located centrally at Belmont, serving patients from the north eastern areas of Durham and beyond, allowing patients to be seen for diagnostics and treatment rather than in an acute hospital environment.

The new centre provides:

Renal dialysis
Ophthalmology
Day surgery

The Trust is moving the services it previously provided in hospitals across Durham to house them all within the new centre.

In addition to the new dialysis unit there will also be:

A daycase theatre
Recovery area
Outpatient procedure room
Consultation rooms
X-ray facilities

Points of interest

Ashley House is a founding member of the Social Stock Exchange, which is for businesses seeking to achieve a positive social and environmental impact through their activities. This new facility in Durham, operated by City Hospitals Sunderland for the benefit of local people and designed and built by local firms fits perfectly with that ethos.

“This facility will not only provide a range of key services in much closer proximity to Durham, but it will allow us to expand and improve those services for the benefit of many of our patients who currently have to travel to Sunderland to receive the care they need.”

Ken Bremner, Chief Executive of City Hospitals Sunderland NHS
Foundation Trust

“This is about building for the NHS of the future – a future in which patients won’t always have to travel to hospital for tests and treatment, and in which diagnostic and treatment centres are fit for the job they need to do. We are very proud to be funding this centre and look forward to seeing it take shape.”

Paul Warwick, Development Manager, Assura
