Official Topping Out Ceremony
for £9m Independent Living Housing scheme
A new Independent Living housing scheme that will boost the housing options for older people in north Essex moved a step closer to completion with an Official Topping Out ceremony on Friday 14 October.
The ceremony marked completion of the roof at Beaumont House, a new £9 million Independent Living housing scheme currently being built on the site of the former Martello Caravan Park in Walton-on-the-Naze.
Once completed Beaumont House will feature 60 attractive one and two bedroom self-contained apartments in addition to communal facilities including a residents’ lounge, dining area, private garden, mobility scooter store and guest room.
The apartments, which will be available for affordable rent, will enable local older people with a care need to continue to live independently with the added security of care and support from One Housing Group’s Season homes, who will manage the site.
The scheme, supported by a £1.7 million funding contribution from Essex County Council, is being delivered by Ashley House plc and is scheduled to open its doors to the first residents in March 2017.
Essex County Council Cabinet Member for Adults and Children, Cllr Dick Madden said: “Essex County Council is committed to improving the lives of residents by helping them to increase their independence and maintaining their choice and control in later life. Beaumont House will mean people from the local community can retain independence but still have the reassurance of 24 hour care on-site, as well as community facilities which will keep them connected to their friends and neighbours.”
Paul Honeywood, Tendring District Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing said: “This scheme is a very welcome and valuable addition to housing provision in Tendring and fits with the Council’s aim to provide local homes for local people. It also helps to meet our goal of supporting vulnerable residents. In will provide them with both independence and security.”
Tony Walters, Chief Executive, Ashley House plc said: “It is fantastic to see all the hard work everyone has put in becoming reality with the progress on the Beaumont House scheme. Ashley House is all about delivering community property solutions through enduring partnerships and we are delighted to be working closely with Essex County Council, Tendring District Council and One Housing Group to deliver this much needed facility for the local community. We look forward to it opening its doors next year and making a positive difference to local people’s lives.”
